Xero Flor is a 40 year Proven System with FLL Compliance and

Cradle to Cradle (C2C) certified for safety to humans and the

enviroment design and
design for future life cycles.

The world’s largest green roof recorded in Guinness World Record has had Xero Flor system installed, it is on the roof of Ford Motor Company Rouge factory in Dearborn, Michigan USA, having the benefits of low maintenance  …….

Low Watering Needs

Xeroflor systems have large built in water-retention capacity to reduce irrigation needs.Watering only during extended drought and heat.

Over watering is not recommended which otherwise will promote weeds and unwanted foreign vegetation.

Vegetation mat design deliberately thin to discourage weed growth

No mowing chore

Sedum selected tend to spread instead of growing tall and therefore no need for mowing/cutting

If preferred, longer stems could be cut and throw back onto the mat for further propagation

Low weeding chore

Dense vegetation when fully grown tends to crowd out foreign and undesirable plants, e.g., weeds.

Weeds cannot grow if moisture content is deliberately kept low (but enough for sedum)

Removing weeds and undesired foreign plants needed until full coverage if growing on-site,

Need to check for un-wanted vegetation in the non-vegetated borders

Instant green and year-round coverage

Pre-grown system offers instant green at installation

Xeroflor’s customized combination of species (taking into account both client needs as well as local environment situation)

Provides year-round growing vegetation, with variation in colours and looks,

No dried-out period (as compared to most other systems)

Low fertilizing needs

Slow-release organic fertilizer as little as once or twice per year when fully grown

Filtered run-off water

No loose soil, thus less clogging and blockage of drainage system,

Less maintenance and repair

Run-off can be used for recycling purposes

Delayed storm water run-off

Delay and reduce peak flow and overall run-off volume of rainfall

Less demanding on drainage and sewerage systems, lowers maintenance cost and extends service life

Bare patches repair

Sedum cuttings (sprouts) can be spread to fill in bare spots

The sprouts will take roots for quick re-covering (no need for fresh plant replacement)

Wind uplift test and fire resistant test

Wind tunnel tested

Survived a recent hurricane with gusts up to 160 kmph with no observed damage nor loss of vegetation and soil

Passed fire resistant test

Long life materials

Mat materials and components, though not bio-degradable, are inert and long lasting. Very little impact on  the environment

 No replacement needs

Long service life of vegetation mats

Over 8 years in the case of the Ford Rogue Plant in the US, and many others

In Europe, Xeroflor sedum systems are known to have been performing satisfactorily for over 30 years

Extended service life of roof

Less stress (heat, uv, etc.) to roof materials and finishes, reducing maintenance cost and repair

Experience in Europe showed doubling of life span of roof material and structures

Easy access for roof repair

Access by removing relevant portion of the vegetation mat

Replacement of the same piece of mat after repair – no need to re-plant or re-grow.

Built-in detection system, if implemented, helps in accurate location of potential and actual leaks

Precautions for cold regions

Check and winterize irrigation system (if any) in cold weather regions

Not a problem in the tropics
